Expo 2027 Belgrade: Sport, Play and Human Well-Being on a Global Stage

In 2027, Belgrade will host Expo 2027 Belgrade, a global specialised exhibition officially recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). The event will take place from 15 May to 15 August 2027, making Serbia the first country in Southeast Europe to host a specialised world expo.

The exhibition is expected to welcome more than 120 participating countries and several million visitors, positioning Belgrade as an international meeting point for innovation, culture, and global dialogue.

“Play for Humanity – Sport and Music for All”

The official theme of Expo 2027 is “Play for Humanity – Sport and Music for All.” The concept explores the role of play, sport, and music in human development and examines how these elements contribute to social resilience, creativity, and quality of life.

According to the organizers, the theme focuses on preparing the human body, mind, and society for future challenges, highlighting the importance of movement, creativity, and social interaction in everyday life.

The Expo programme will be structured around three thematic pillars:

  • Power of Play – exploring play as a source of resilience and creativity

  • Play for Progress – focusing on innovation and new ideas

  • Play Together – emphasizing inclusion, social connection, and cultural exchange

These themes will guide exhibitions, international pavilions, conferences, and interactive experiences throughout the 93-day event.

Sport, Movement and Healthy Lifestyles

Sport and physical activity are central elements of the Expo’s concept. The exhibition aims to highlight how regular physical movement contributes to physical health, mental well-being, and community engagement.

Through interactive exhibitions, sporting demonstrations, and cultural programming, visitors will be able to explore the relationship between movement, creativity, and human wellbeing.

Events connected with the Expo are also expected to promote active lifestyles through collaborations with existing sporting initiatives and public events in Belgrade.

International Exchange and Cultural Dialogue

Like all world exhibitions organized under the BIE framework, Expo 2027 will bring together countries from around the world through national pavilions presenting ideas, innovations, and cultural perspectives related to the Expo theme.

The programme is expected to include thousands of cultural, educational, and scientific events, including exhibitions, performances, discussions, and international forums.

These initiatives will create a platform for dialogue on topics such as creativity, education, innovation, sport, and social development.

A Historic Moment for Serbia

Hosting Expo 2027 represents a milestone for Serbia and the wider Western Balkans. It will be the first time a world exhibition of this scale is organized in the region, placing Belgrade on the global stage.

Beyond the event itself, Expo 2027 is expected to strengthen Serbia’s international visibility while creating opportunities for tourism, cultural exchange, and global cooperation.

For 93 days in 2027, Belgrade will become a global meeting point where countries, ideas, and cultures connect through the universal languages of play, sport, and music.
